Seafloor, Kelp, Currents

This installation on Orcas Island was designed for clients who wanted a design expressive of kelp, in organic matte tones. The lines on the wall suggest movement of water and seaweed fronds, rhythmic and constant. The hearth floor extends the darker kelp color, in a pattern like waves on sand. The cement board was already in place, so the design was created for that existing shape. The color variations of the floor tiles show how each piece reacts differently to firing conditions in the kiln.
