Public Art in a Historic Building

The post office on Waldron Island has been a lifeline and central community space since the 19th century. The classic log building has been well-loved over the years, and in the current era its functions are more important than ever. It’s a place to gather, connect, and exchange news. I wanted this installation to be a quiet one, harmonizing with the existing space and looking as if it had always been there. The wrap-around tiles on the corners show the versatility of handmade custom work, and the central carved tile is a relief image of Waldron Island.
