A Map of the Willamette Valley Wine Country for a Portland Tasting Room
Battle Creek Cellars opened their tasting room in October 2019, in Portland’s Pearl District. For this brand new space, they were looking for a cartographic piece that would convey the vitality of the Willamette Valley in natural earth tones. On this map, the Battle Creek vineyard blocks are in glazed in a rich madrona red color, and scored to show the layout of the planted rows. Other glazes and sculpted textures tell which parcels are wooded, which are fields, and which are vineyards. Translating this intricately sectioned cartography into clay art was a long and fascinating process. The mural is 3.5 feet by 5 feet.
